ABOUT JIM HOWARD
In 1995, I started my fourth career.
After
a successful military career in the US Army (my first
career), I tried my hand at working in corporate America
as an Electronics Service Engineer (my second career)
for several South Carolina companies. I designed and
maintained several state-of-the-art computerized process
control systems used for continuous production lines.
One of these companies manufactured web-based products,
such as, adhesive tapes, textiles and carpet. The other
company produced man-made fiber monofilament products.
In 1991, I decided to leave corporate America and
work as a free-lance process control system consultant
and designer (my third career). I traveled a lot
throughout the US and overseas.
In 1995, I decided to reorganize and try out this
new-fangled thing called the Internet (my fourth
career). In 1975 I had worked on a project with the US
Army that used computers in a centralized location to
communicate via satellite and landlines with other
computers worldwide. It wasn't called the Internet in
1975, but now I know that it was.
I worked with all types of small businesses.
Everything from retail stores to service type
businesses; from real estate agencies, advertising
agencies and food service providers to newspapers and
not-for-profit organizations.
Needless to say, I learned a lot about small business
operations and got to share in their successes and
failures.
Today, I use my knowledge and expertise to design and
maintain applications that use this wonderful tool we
call the Internet.
I don't think I'll have to start a fifth career. This
one is keeping me busy and I love helping others be
successful and make money.
